About Jon Batiste
At 8 years old, Batiste played percussion and drums for his family’s band the Batiste Brothers Band. By 11, he had switched to the piano and never looked back, cutting his first album at just 17. Batiste’s signature style is deeply influenced by his New Orleans roots, blending jazz with a soulful, vibrant energy that includes boundary-pushing collaborations with artists like Lana Del Rey and Lil’ Wayne, along with expansive reinterpretations of Beethoven’s most iconic works. Batiste’s twenty-two Grammy nominations and five awards, including Album of the Year(2022), as well as the Academy Award for Best Original Score on the Pixar film Soul(2020), highlights his generational talent as a musician and composer.

Nassau has a deep musical legacy and the club’s refined ambiance is inspired by the golden age of night clubs in The Bahamas from the 50’s and 60’s, where popular spots like Cat and Fiddle Club played host to the era’s biggest musical stars, including icons like Louis Armstrong, Aretha Franklin, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr, and many others.

Batiste’s club taps into the The Bahamas eclectic musical tradition made up of three distinct but related genres: Goombay, Rake ‘n’ Scrape, and Junkanoo, which features “rush outs” in brilliantly colored costumes, energetic dance, and the rhythmic sounds of cowbells, goat skin drums whistles, and brass instruments, to create a musical blend that is hard to resist.
